Like every other millennial that loves to read and write, all the credit goes to Harry Potter. 

As a preteen I would spend my nights writing stories for FanFiction.net, fuelued by Froot Loops cereal and the daydreams I’d cultivate during math class. I’d post my stories before I went to bed and race home from school the next day to see if anyone had commented or left a review. 

These reviews meant the world to me! Knowing that someone had actually read my story, and that they liked it enough to check back for new chapters was a bigger encouragement than any A+ grade I had ever received on an English assignment. 

This hobby is what eventually led me to pursue a degree in Journalism. The highlight of my degree was travelling to Guadalajara, Mexico and partaking in a documentary production course. The tittle of the documentary that I worked on was Pepenadores, translating roughly to “trash picker”. In it, we explore the lives of people who make their living off of pulling recyclable materials out of landfills. 

Most Canadians have been to Mexico either to travel or to enjoy a resort, but not a lot of them can say they’ve visited a Mexican garbage dump (I can).

I graduated in December of 2019, and began a job as a Vacation Planner at a luxury travel company in February of 2020. Obviously, the pandemic hit soon after. Most of the team was laid off, I was not (despite being extremely new). In addition to helping cancel all of the vacations we had booked for guests that year, I also played a key role in the company’s rebranding. I helped with the branding, establishing an effective social media presence and completely overhauling the website. 

It was over the course of the pandemic that I worked my way up from an entry level Vacation Planner to Customer Experience Lead.
